What Is SkinPen Microneedling?

When home skin care products aren't proving effective, but you don't want to undergo surgery, consider minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatments, like SkinPen microneedling. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Calvin Williams offers microneedling (collagen induction therapy) at his Bedford, TX office. SkinPen is an FDA-approved microneedling device that uses multiple fine needles to safely create micro-injuries in the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that enhance the health and appearance of your skin. Often performed with serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma), microneedling can help minimize scars, stretch marks, and other imperfections. Make an appointment at Essential Dermatology Group to learn more about the benefits of microneedling with SkinPen.

How Does SkinPen Microneedling Work?

SkinPen microneedling is completed in one of our office procedure rooms in around 30 – 60 minutes with local anesthesia or numbing cream if requested, but most patients feel mild or no discomfort. The skin being addressed will be cleansed before the SkinPen handpiece is passed evenly over. Once the microneedling is complete, a topical treatment, like PRP (platelet-rich plasma) or a serum with a vitamin infusion, may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer selected for your skin type will be massaged in along with sunscreen because your skin will be sensitive following the procedure. You can expect results in three treatment sessions that may last up to six months.

About Us
How much does microneedling cost?

During your initial consultation, Dr. Williams will perform a skin analysis and then create your custom treatment plan. After this, he can discuss your costs and the procedure. Essential Dermatology Group frequently offers discounts on skin treatment packages, so be sure to ask about our current deals during your consultation.

What exactly is microneedling?

Microneedling, or collagen induction therapy, is a nonsurgical treatment to rejuvenate your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps your skin stay smooth, supple, and tight. Eventually, your supply of collagen is depleted, and your skin gets less elastic and thin. Microneedling makes tiny wounds on your skin. These micro-injuries cause your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. Once healed, your skin is brighter, firmer, and healthier.

Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?

During the process of microneedling, channels are created that help other treatments to penetrate the lower layers. That's why microneedling is frequently combined before other skin treatments, like vitamin-rich serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling with PRP is often called the vampire facial. During your initial consultation, Dr. Williams can discuss what treatments may be performed along with microneedling and which can help your skin's health.
