What Is IPL?

If you are bothered by how your skin looks because of dark spots or sun damage, board-certified dermatologist Dr. Calvin Williams can perform a skin examination at our Bedford, TX office to see if you may benefit from IPL (intense pulsed light) therapy. An IPL photofacial is a treatment that uses pulses of broadband light to rejuvenate the skin of individuals with hyperpigmentation issues on their face and neck. A photofacial may be a noninvasive procedure; however, it can be very effective and produce impressive outcomes. Contact Essential Dermatology Group to schedule a consultation for your IPL treatment today.

How Does IPL Work?

An IPL photofacial is completed inside our Bedford, TX office in around 20 – 30 minutes in one of our private treatment rooms if performed alone. To start the process, we will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with goggles. The photofacial is performed using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting intense pulses of light that heat the skin to ignite the natural healing process and increase collagen production. As the added nutrients take effect, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with a more even tone and fewer dark spots. While most patients will have mild discomfort during the IPL photofacial, it is usually tolerable given the short treatment length.

I recently had an appointment with Dr. Williams seeking treatment for a hypertrophic post-surgical scar on my foot after a Lapiplasty bunion correction surgery. I was delighted with his approach. He explained why this happened to my skin and very thoughtfully explained his recommended treatment in a way I could understand. He shared the pros and cons of other therapies and why this would be the best approach. I had another doctor suggest an alternative surgical method that would have likely resulted in an even worse condition. Dr. Williams explained why I should avoid it. I am so thankful that I found Dr. Williams and am now on my way to a better outcome with his guidance. I strongly recommend his services, especially in the area of hypertrophic scars.
