Calvin Williams, M.D., F.A.A.D.

I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from DePaul University in Chicago, where I also worked as a research assistant at the University of Chicago studying evolution and neonatal disease models. I went on to earn my medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston, then returned to the Midwest for my internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Chicago Medical Center. I completed my three-year Dermatology Residency at UT Southwestern in Dallas — one of the top dermatology training programs in the country — where I trained across the full range of medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology.

I am a Diplomate of the American Board of Dermatology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology.

My practice covers the full spectrum of dermatology:

Medical dermatology: Eczema, psoriasis, acne and acne scars, rosacea, seborrheic dermatitis, hair loss, hyperpigmentation and melasma, warts, keloids, and skin infections. These conditions can affect more than just skin — they affect confidence, sleep, and daily life — and I treat them with that in mind.

Skin of color: As an African American dermatologist, I’ve made caring for patients with brown and Black skin a particular focus of my practice. Many conditions — from acne and eczema to pigmentation disorders and keloids — present differently in darker skin types and are too often misdiagnosed or undertreated. I bring both clinical training and lived perspective to making sure my patients get the right diagnosis and a treatment plan suited to their skin.

Surgical dermatology: Skin cancer screenings and excisions, mole removal, biopsies, cyst and lipoma removal, keloid excision, and split earlobe repair. When something needs to come off, you’ll understand why and what to expect at every step.

Cosmetic dermatology: I offer advanced laser and resurfacing options including the Deka Helix CO2 fractional laser and Fusion handpiece, CoolPeel ablative resurfacing, and LaseMD Ultra — a range that lets me match the treatment to your skin type, downtime tolerance, and goals, from gentle refreshes to deeper resurfacing for texture, acne scars, other scarring, and signs of aging. For patients seeking the most dramatic resurfacing results, I also perform deep croton oil phenol peels — a powerful in-office procedure with significant downtime that, in the right candidate, can address advanced photoaging and deep wrinkles. I’ll always walk you through what a treatment can realistically achieve, what the recovery looks like, and whether it’s the right fit before we ever schedule it. My practice also offers IPL, chemical peels, microneedling, wrinkle relaxers, dermal fillers, and hair restoration treatments including PRP and Keralase.

I built Essential Dermatology Group around a simple idea: patients deserve a dermatologist who listens. I take the time to ask questions, examine thoroughly, and explain what I’m thinking — including what we’re ruling out and why. When I’m not at the clinic, you’ll find me with my family, traveling, working out, or cheering on the Chicago Bears — some loyalties you don’t leave behind, no matter how long you’ve lived in Texas. Mentoring at-risk youth is also an important part of my life outside of medicine; giving back to the next generation is something I make time for.
