What Is FUE Hair Transplant?

Hair loss, while common, can be upsetting. If nonsurgical treatments aren't helping to slow or stop your hair loss, it might be time to consider hair restoration surgery. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Calvin Williams performs follicular unit extraction (FUE) for Bedford, TX patients who want fuller hair. FUE hair transplant is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that uses innovative technology to remove and implant individual follicles. FUE selects the best donor follicles in the back part of your scalp and then places them where they are needed. Dr. Williams utilizes the FUE tool to carefully set each follicle graft so that your results look and feel natural. If you have thinning hair or bald spots, schedule a consultation at Essential Dermatology Group to learn more about the FUE hair transplant.

How Does FUE Hair Transplant Work?

FUE procedures are performed at our Bedford, TX office using a local anesthetic to numb your scalp. Something stronger, like an oral sedative, might be added to keep you calm throughout the process. Your donor follicles will generally come from the back part of your head since this is a place where hair growth remains constant. For medium to large grafts, the back and sides of your scalp may have to be shaved. For smaller cases (less than 1,000 – 1,200 grafts), you might just have to get a little strip of hair shaved, which will be hidden by the hair above it. The donor hair is removed in follicular units, typically around 1 – 4 hairs. The hair removal procedure is randomized so that the hair around the extracted follicles will grow back and then cover the follicles that are extracted.

Dr. Williams caught a skin cancer that other docs ignored. I recommend him to everyone.

About Us
How is FUE different from other hair transplant methods?

FUE differs from traditional hair transplant methods, such as FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation), as it involves extracting individual follicles directly from the donor area without the need for a linear incision.

How is the donor area selected for FUE?

The donor area is usually the back or sides of the scalp, where hair is genetically resistant to the hormone DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which is responsible for hair loss.

Is FUE a painful procedure?

FUE is performed under local anesthesia, minimizing pain during the procedure. Patients may experience some discomfort or mild pain after the anesthesia wears off, but this can be managed with pain medications.
